Greek shipowner is said to be entering 2003-built Japanese-built aframax into tanker pool.
Greek shipowner Atlas Maritime has emerged as the latest shipowner to enter tonnage Navig8’s V8 aframax tanker pool.
The Leon Patitsas-led shipowner is set to contribute its 115,418-dwt Lady M (built 2003) in the coming days, the pool operator confirmed.
The addition of the Japanese-built tanker will take the number of vessels committed to the V8 Pool to 19 vessels, Navig8 said.
The pool has expanded significant in 2017 with seven new vessels join the pool since the start of the year, it added.
Wah Kwong’s 113,200-dwt aframax tanker Tenacity Venture (built 2017) is the most recent ship to be added to the V8 Pool.
It is the last of four aframax newbuildings the Hong Kong-based shipowner has entered into the pool under a deal announced in January.
The Navig8 V8 pool’s other members include Gener8 Maritime, Hellenic Tankers, Ravi Mehrotra’s Foresight Group and Libya’s General National Maritime Transportation Co (GNMTC).
Atlas Maritime has a fleet of eight tankers – one VLCC and seven aframaxes – according to a fleet list on its website.
However, the company told TradeWinds last year in an interview just after Posidonia that it was considering a move into the dry cargo market.
